Tapsana.com

Power people want profit from creation of business directories. Business owners don’t understand why they need to be listed in a Web-based directory. No one cares.

I don’t want any profit from Tapsana.com, I want to create some awareness, that Web can be more than just chatting or browsing. It must try to change how business is done in Turkmenistan. Of course it’s not complete yet and has many bugs. But it’s here and it will keep working. Every week I will add several companies, until we have hundreds, and maybe thousands of companies someday.

Ant means “service”. Bug means “manufacturer”. Bee means “jobs and candidates”. Butterfly means “arts and humanities”. The design started from a cat I draw for my little daughter. Enjoy!

Turkmen construction companies

The time when local Turkmen companies such as “Bally”, with support from construction materials mnufacturers, such as “Ak Tam”, will start winning international tenders for construction in Turkmenistan. Already many sub-contractors for foreign companies are local firms and enterpreneurs. We have learned how to build quality buildings now, and this will happen pretty soon.

Of course it doesn’t mean any sudden switch from foreign to local, it only means natural emergence of local alternatives.

Private business exhibition

The private business exhibition just opened in Ashgabat this morning. Guess who saw the whole thing yesterday? Of course it was your humble servant (pretty fast huh). From Hasar cookies and candies from Duygy, from ice-cream from Bal-Gaymak and Payhas, to carpets, musical instruments, national dresses, meat products, furniture, telecommunication and computers, to travel services from Ayan, to language and computer courses from Calicat and Ozen. It’s a magnificient show of our achievements.

Surely we want more, of course we want much more. But it’s a great start 😀

My prison

My prison

Once my path to home lay through Istanbul. Unfortunately someone blew a bank the day our flight arrived. We were traveling from one side of the city to another in a bus, and then at some point the driver couldn’t proceed because the street was closed. An old man started yelling at the driver, demanding back his money. The driver of course didn’t return his money. People yelling over a few cents, wasting their irreplaceable nerve cells…

What’s the point of freedom, if one gets to live among such people? Where a few banknotes change people’s attitude towards you in a flash? Where friends aren’ friends anymore when you don’t own a Lexus? When you can’t enjoy simple things as sunshine, rain, chill of a dawn?

If I didn’t want anything I would be the richest person on Earth. If I could leave all so-called “friends”, and find a true Friend, I would never be alone. I could be truly free in a prison, surrounded by grim concrete walls, if I was enlightened. Nothing and no one would stop me from helping my nation to become a Central Asian Tiger, even if I’m so dumb. Even in prisons I would write my books, I would seek enlightenment, I would try to inspire other people, even if I lost my own inspiration years ago.

A command and control job would be a prison for me, living for money would be a prison for me, having useless “friends” would be a prison for me. A prison made of concrete and steel wouldn’t be a prison for me at all (at least I think so right now).

Lies and buys of job hunt in private business

Why lie to get a job? Many people fear life and any hardships in general. It’s easier to lie, to avoid to blame others. It’s a disease which is further intensified by some HR people. Of course a person with connections is more likely to be hired anywhere in the world, but accepting favors in return for a job…

In some areas secrecy and hgih walls are OK, but not on the job market. Here, secrecy creates corruption. My solution is quite simple;

  • CEO should hire severely honest people as HR, and monitor hiring process closely
  • Internet job sites, specifically made for Turkmenistan are crucial
  • Equal opportunities of employment for everyone, regardless of gender, nationality etc. (so called “equal employment policies”)

This is so obvious, I feel dumb even posting about this 😀

Fast forward the dumb English-Russian-English document translation

Fast forward the dumb English-Russian-English document translation

Unfortunately the translation of technical documents is my duty. Sometimes it’s fun, but mostly it’s mind-numbing work. So, as time passed by, I got more professional at it, eliminated boring stuff and left only fun part. Here’s how;

1. Scan A4 documents and make Abbyy FineReader recognize text
2. Make PROMPT software translate the whole Word document (it’s quite good)
3. Edit translation, and have fun laughing at dumb computer’s mistakes

There was this guy who lied to get a translation job. I mean many people just lie to get jobs nowadays (and then hide from their bosses). Anyway, I recommended him to use software. At least let the machine do the job, right?

RSS Reader, software, browser plugin or web-based

The Opera RSS plugin doesn’t allow checking new headlines on demand (otherwise it’s perfect). So I switched to RSS Reader software. Which checks for new headlines and also stores them conveniently on PC. Web based readers like Bloglines or Google Reader are only accessible online, which is a disadvantage for people with limited connection.

Overall, with a dial-up connection like mine, it’s best to have a software installed, or use a browser plugin reader.
