The winter of 1969 | January 12, 2008

Turkmenistan experiences on of the coldest winters. It’s compared to 1969, however it’s not as cold as 39 years ago. Now we have natural gas instead of coal, and shops on every corner. But this year is surely quite cold. We’re an Asian nation, so it’s uncomfortable.

Here are some memoirs of 1969:

“It was so cold that they closed the schools. The snow was very deep, it was difficult to go and buy groceries”

“Amuderya froze down the river. And water flooded half the Charjev. They used aviation to bomb the river’s ice”

“Nah, it was much colder in 1969”

Those old people, they always think grass was greener 40 years ago. Come on, I want to be a part of legendary winter of 2008 😀
