Telecom / IT Engineer position | September 5, 2007

Html programmer

Seth Godin has once again put an idea that was around in people’s minds into words. The idea: we tend to hire the best self-marketer, and not the best specialist. So, here’s a real job ad which I tried to make different, and really tell what we will hire for.

We will hire a young (can be a fresh grad), cool, and absolutely fun person to be a part of our team. He/she has to be a fan of TV series, ex: “Heroes”, “Prison Break” and “House”. Love for fantasy books, especially “Lord of the Rings” and “Harry Potter” is a bonus.

Bad habits of this professional should include; gaming, Web surfing and non-drinking. Overall, this person should be opposite of Turkmenistan’s work environment; i.e. obsessed with non-standard non-conformist innovative thinking, absurdly honest and commited to “getting things done” instead of “protecting status quo”.

However, my boss wants some realistic qualities as well. I fought with him for 3 hours to reduce the list to;

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or Telecom
  • Fluency in English & Russian
  • Ashgabat residence (suburbs are OK)
  • Big interest in engineering

We will pay real good money to a real good professional. The salary will constantly rise if you constantly contribute to the company. However, we really don’t promise anything.

Application: Just leave comment for this post. Thank you.

P.S. Me good friend Durdy Moped suggested I put images with my posts. Here comes the first image.

  1. Since Nahili went underground, I could not constantly follow the updates here. all the time go to and search for “Nahili underground” or “nahili wordpress” to find the link. But anyway better here than nowhere. πŸ™‚

Nice position I would really advice this position to my friends! But why dont you have it on your corporate website? And do u plan to expand, cause if you have some Company Expansion, then you will surely have some growth possibility for employees… WIIIF- What is in it for me? πŸ™‚ salary?experience? growth? nice people?

Did u get one already? or should I advice your job to the guys…

  2. Nope, I need a real professional. Someone real lazy and real smart. I have never met another fan of “Harry Potter” in Turkmenistan, therefore I don’t think you know anyone this good.

Guys with Turkmen-Turkish university degree are not acceptable. Has to have a foreign degree too. Overall, I won’t hire anyone normal.

  3. hmm, i have crazy guys that have graduated from foreign university, but we also need to consider what ur company will provide them… Those “crazy” guys with skills you mentioned wont work in Turkmenistan even for SLB salary.

WIIIFT? what is in it for them? πŸ™‚ it is what everyone gonna look for…

    Happy searching… πŸ˜‰

  4. is position still available? will u give more salary than SLB? and what company is that?

  5. last question. why Turkmen-Turkish grads not applicable?

    Comment by Shaga — November 18, 2008 @ 2:56 am

  6. too lazy to respond… it’s all above.

  7. usually i get to ask questions2

  8. too lazy to respond twice? still so curios, why not Turkmen-Turkish grads?

    Comment by Shaga — November 18, 2008 @ 7:02 pm

  9. Because Turkmen-Turkish university is a kindergarten. The graduates tend to be like “I want money and West, nothing but money and West”. Which is childish.

We’re not a western company, those graduates should go to western companies and be their servants. And not give us a headache.

As for the salary. NO, for SLB salary (and SLB work) one should go to SLB. Here’s a more relaxed environment for white bboys with families and kids. For family guys that don;t want to divorce over money in the future.

What’s in it for you? A small human company. Nothing more, nothing less. Take it or leave it.

  10. But I still wont agree… πŸ™‚

A good salary and future growth is something that Every graduate wants. How many UTP graduates are woking for local companies?!

How would, let’s say Ulker market its products, by showing to the customers benefits that they will get…

Same should do the companies…position should be consistently attractable…

But anyway it can be discussed really long… As most of us dont work for joy, rather work for some other reasons.(not always money)
It is always easy to “label” people, ex: this people want money, fame…etc.etc.. it is harder to try to understand them…

  11. I do not agree with you about ITTU grads. With limited information you have about them, you may think that way. There is nothing to argue about. Everyone’s thoughts based on information they have, wrong or true.

  12. Guys, we all know that we agree in general things. Misunderstanding is caused by long-distance commenting and slow (dialup internet on my side). So, we can discuss this some other time, I’m sure that we will understand each other.

  13. Fully agree!
